News Desk, News Nation 360 : Recently, the Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC)-affiliated All India National Life Insurance Employees’ Federation (AINLIEF) held its All India Triennial General Conference in Kolkata. Distinguished dignitaries such as MK Raghavan, Member of Parliament; Qamaruzzaman Qamar, President of INTUC West Bengal State; Mita Chakraborty, AICC Spokesperson; V. Narasimhan, General Secretary of AINLIEF (INTUC); Sanjay Chakraborty, General Secretary Eastern Zone; and T. Ramchandran, General Secretary All India National Life Insurance officer's Congress (INTUC) were among the distinguished dignitaries who graced this momentous occasion. It was at a very crucial juncture when the Life Insurance Corporation of India, with all its many fantastic performers under various metrics, stood right on the edge of disinvestment. However, with several imperative issues confronting employees and the public sector distinction, the conference aimed at supporting the LIC in that position. Key demands included the urgent necessity to abolish GST on all insurance premiums, reverse the New Labour Codes, and ensure the ratification of C-190 by the Indian government. Further demands made included a five-year pension revision cycle, re-instituting the Old Pension Scheme for employees recruited after 2010, a stop to further increases in FDI in the insurance sector, and fresh recruitment to Class III and IV positions. These collective demands underscore the imperative for protecting LIC's interests and its continued role as a vital institution in the public sector. Strategies to thwart privatisation efforts and preserve LIC's position as a cornerstone of public trust were also the main topics of discussion at the conference. To complete concrete decisions that will help achieve these objectives, the delegates' session will continue tomorrow, December 1, 2024.
