BIS's Cycle Rally in Digha to Promote Awareness of the Importance of Standards

News Desk, News Nation 360 : The rally aims to encourage the use of BIS-certified products, thereby promoting quality consciousness among the general public. Standards play a crucial role in fostering industrial efficiency, protecting public interest, and enabling economic growth through import substitution and the promotion of exports. A rally was organised by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) at the sea beach at Digha, a coastal town in West Bengal, on April 11, 2025, at 3:00 PM. The rally witnessed active participation from 120 women volunteers who contributed towards generating awareness among the tourists visiting the old Digha beach. Before the rally, the volunteers took part in a sensitisation programme in which S Dhar, Director BIS, and Imon Mukherjee, Assistant Director, Department of Consumer Affairs, Government of West Bengal, gave them information. M Gantait, Joint Director BIS, spoke about the benefits of purchasing certified (ISI marked) products, and Utkarsh Diwaker, Assistant Director BIS, briefed participants regarding the BIS care app through which one can verify the HUID number on gold jewellery to ensure genuineness. This rally is part of a larger BIS initiative to show how standardisation, certification, and quality assurance contribute to national development by ensuring that goods are safe and reliable, reducing the risk of adverse health effects, and enhancing consumer confidence. Speaking about the initiative, a BIS official stated that the foundation of a robust economy and a secure society is known as Standards. This event is an attempt to raise consumer awareness of the importance of selecting certified products and their rights to quality.
