SERVES FOR NATION
News Desk, News Nation 360 : To raise awareness about Partial Knee Replacement Surgery, often referred to as Noncompartmental Knee Replacement (UKR), renowned orthopaedic surgeon Brigadier (Dr) Barun Datta (Retd), who has a distinguished military medical career, held an informative news conference. Brigadier Dr Datta, a Senior Orthopaedic Surgeon assigned to Narayana Hospital, RN Tagore Hospital, Mukundapur, facilitated a session designed to enlighten patients and health providers regarding Unicompartmental Knee Replacement (UKR). He illustrated how UKR represents a minimally invasive alternative to total knee replacement that can benefit those with arthritis that involves one component of the knee alone. Major advantages identified in the course of the session were that UKR is less traumatic with smaller scars and less damage to healthy tissues, causes quicker recovery with shorter stays in hospital and earlier resumption of normal activities, produces better functionality and a more natural sensation of the knee by avoiding damage to unaffected compartments, and is potentially more cost-effective in the long term. Brigadier Dr Datta also answered questions regarding UKR's success rates and longevity, commenting that results are extremely good with proper patient selection and experienced surgery. Brigadier Dr Datta stated that significant benefits of partial knee replacement include faster recovery, preserving healthy knee tissue, and improved knee movement after surgery. They aim to give patients the knowledge they need to make educated decisions about their treatment options.
