News Desk, News Nation 360 : As part of a trial run, the first helicopter touched down on the elevated platform late Friday morning, making Desun Hospital the first and only hospital in India to have a rooftop helipad. On January 14, 2025, the Director General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) gave Desun Hospital the final approval, directing them to conduct the first landing as an experiment. OSS Air Management Pvt Ltd, an authorised DGCA firm, flew the aircraft with a DGCA observer aboard. By routine operating practices, Desun Hospital informed the Airports Authority of India (AAI) of the flight schedule and landing for all required coordination. Sajal Dutta, Chairman & Managing Director of Desun Hospital, stated that they at Desun are all proud of this moment. In an emergency, the rooftop helipad would enable them to provide even better medical care to critically ill patients from West Bengal, the Northeast, and other Eastern Indian states. They can provide air ambulance services to people who require critical care support but might not have the time for a quicker medical intervention now that the trial has been successful. With Captain Indranil Bhattacharya as pilot and Captain Sanjeev Sharma as co-pilot, the Augusta 109 SP helicopter, which had taken off from Behala Flying Club at approximately 10:45 AM, made a flawless landing. Desun Hospital's rooftop helipad, located at an elevation of 52.45 meters and designated as "Latitude 22.30 degrees North and Longitude 88.11 East," was equipped with all the safety precautions, firefighting supplies, and other equipment required to guarantee a smooth landing.
