Doctors of Manipal Hospital Save Heart Patient in Emergency

News Desk, News Nation 360 : When life abruptly comes to an end, everything can alter in an instant. In times of extreme crisis, when we are at the intersection of life and death, not only does medicine have the ability to save our lives, but doctors also step up to save our lives by sacrificing themselves like heroes. Two such heroic events occurred at Manipal Hospital in December 2024. Manipal Hospital's doctors saved lives by acting bravely and promptly. Manipal Hospital showcases the critical role of timely intervention in cardiac emergencies through two recent cases and its CPR training programs on an ongoing basis. On December 6, a passenger travelling from Kolkata to Delhi complained of severe breathlessness and highly elevated blood pressure; fortunately, Dr Smita Maitra, Consultant and In-charge of Manipal Hospital Kolkata's Emergency Department, happened to be travelling on the same flight and could administer crucial onboard treatment with only limited supplies onboard, preventing fatal cardiac arrest and ensuring safe transfer after an emergency landing. Similarly, on December 25, 2024, at the Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru, Dr Garima Agarwal, Consultant Nephrologist and Renal Transplant Doctor at Manipal Hospital Varthur Road performed CPR on a man who was waiting for his flight to undergo a heart attack and was revived well before the airport medical staff came and took him to the hospital. These incidents draw attention to the urgent need for quick intervention. Delay in arriving at hospitals in case of heart attack is a major issue here in India; irreversible damage could occur if there is no intervention within 18 minutes of cardiac arrest. To address this issue, Manipal Hospital has executed extensive CPR training programs that reached over 2,000 volunteers in Kolkata, targeting security guards, educational institutions, associations, and community members through their initiative called "Hearts Across Kolkata." Their "Mission 3K - 3000 Hearts One Beat" in Bengaluru was one of those CSR initiatives that grabbed a Guinness World Record for having the largest helping hand with a total of 3,319 participants. Manipal Hospital emphasizes that every CPR-trained individual is a potential lifesaver, highlighting the effectiveness of their training in sudden cardiac emergencies and reinforcing their commitment to cardiac health, emphasizing that every heartbeat counts.
