News Desk, News Nation 360 : Global logistics integrator Maersk (Maersk) has announced an important development in India as part of its 'Equal At Sea' campaign. With women making up 45% of the Nautical and Engineering cadets hired in 2024, the corporation is getting closer to its goal of having equal gender representation in its cadet intake by 2027. The 'Equal At Sea' conference, held in Mumbai, brought together maritime industry leaders to discuss gender diversity and inclusion. The conference featured interactive discussions, guest speakers, and a progress report on Maersk's diversity initiatives. Key achievements in India include a significant increase in the number of Indian women seafarers, progress in nautical and engineering streams, and the successful launch of the Women Rating Programme. Globally, Maersk has seen a substantial increase in the number of women seafarers in its fleet, contributing to greater gender diversity within the maritime industry. Karan Kochhar, Head of Marine People, Asia, Maersk, stated that their persistent efforts and the industry's tremendous support have begun to realise the potential of establishing a fair environment at sea that will enable women to prosper. They have been successful in encouraging more Indian women to pursue careers in seafaring through their initiatives. The program unites many industry players on a single platform that acts as a focal point for idea sharing, comprehension of industry difficulties, mutual learning, and application of best practices.
