Leading neurologists and neurosurgeons from Manipal Hospitals' units celebrated World Stroke Day, which is recognised worldwide on October 29. They presented valuable insights on how early stroke detection and care may enhance patient outcomes. With a 43% increase in stroke-related deaths between 1990 and 2019, stroke is currently one of India's leading causes of death. Because strokes affect so many people, particularly those between the ages of 25 and 50, the Be Stroke Smart campaign is an important public education program that encourages healthy behaviours to prevent and manage strokes. The goal of this awareness campaign is to open the door for Manipal Hospitals to improve stroke care in Kolkata and beyond. Manipal Hospitals has launched the 'Be Stroke Smart' campaign to raise awareness about stroke, particularly among younger age groups. Eminent stroke specialists from the hospital highlighted the increasing prevalence of strokes and the importance of early recognition and immediate medical attention. The campaign involves community-oriented programs, including awareness drives, training for first responders, and creating a network of stroke-ready hospitals. Manipal Hospitals' advanced infrastructure, 24/7 neurology experts, and dedicated ambulance fleet ensure timely and expert care for stroke patients. Additionally, the hospital is training ambulance drivers to recognize stroke symptoms and promptly transport patients to the nearest stroke-ready facility. Through these initiatives, Manipal Hospitals aims to
empower the community with lifesaving skills and make Kolkata a 'Stroke Smart' city. Dr Ayanabh DebGupta, Regional COO, Manipal Hospitals (East), underlined the need for awareness in stroke prevention and stated that their goal is to create a community that is equipped with the information and tools necessary to prevent, identify, and treat strokes as soon as they occur. With the 'Be Stroke Smart' Kolkata campaign is they want to establish a stroke-ready environment in Eastern India where everyone is informed enough to recognise early symptoms and seek medical attention right away.
