News Desk, News Nation 360 : A one-month-old infant with severe respiratory distress was taken to the emergency room of the Narayana Hospital, RN Tagore Hospital, Mukundapur, in a critical state. The infant needed mechanical ventilation later on and oxygen support initially. After discovering that the small patient had a complicated congenital cardiac ailment, a skilled medical team acted quickly to save her life. The infant underwent a complex surgery that lasted several hours, followed by a month-long hospitalization marked by various complications. Postoperatively, the baby experienced pulmonary artery hypertensive crises, requiring prolonged ventilation, nitric oxide therapy, pulmonary vasodilators, and intensive physiotherapy to manage repeated lung collapses. On day 14, a cardiac arrest during extubation necessitated immediate CPR and reintubation. Despite these setbacks, the clinical team successfully weaned the patient off ventilation and stabilized her condition with optimized medication and extensive physiotherapy. After a month of hospitalization, the baby was discharged in a stable condition and is now thriving under regular follow-up care. Dr. Sukanta Behara, Senior Consultant in Cardiac Surgery at Narayana Hospital, RN Tagore Hospital, Mukundapur, led the multidisciplinary team that took on the challenge of performing a Hemitruncus repair and tricuspid valve repair. He stated that during the procedure, they encountered a rare complication in infants — a tear in the tricuspid valve. To fix this, the team had to create a new chord to support the valve. The clinical outcome demonstrates that Narayana Hospital, RN Tagore Hospital, Mukundapur, is a pioneer in neonatal cardiac care, capable of providing life-saving procedures for some of the most difficult medical patients.
