News Desk, News Nation 360 : Operation Straight Spine (OSS) and the Kolkata Spine Deformity Surgery Workshop are two innovative humanitarian initiatives that bring together world-renowned spine surgeons, anaesthetists, and specialised medical professionals to provide life-changing care, particularly for those who would not otherwise have access to such specialised treatment. JIMSH is proud to present these programs. In Kolkata, an interdisciplinary humanitarian mission initiated by the Orthopaedic Society of South (OSS) and facilitated by Prof. Dr Ujjwal Debnath, Professor and HOD of the Department of Orthopaedics in JIMSH, has brought together various eminent international medical representatives, which include Dr Alaaeldin Ahmad (Palestine), Prof. Massimo Balsano (Italy), Dr Girish Swamy (UK), Dr Naveen C. Murali (UK), and students named Jacqueline Critchley, Cherry, Jadjie Promilda, and Sergio Cecchelli (UK). These volunteers have conducted intensive, free surgeries for between 6 and 10 hours in a bid to restore mobility and dignity in the lives of high-risk children afflicted with severe orthopedic conditions, thus projecting lives of 12 children, of which 11 hailed from West Bengal and included 8-year-old Adrija Majumdar, with a new ray of hope. The innovative surgeries, conducted at Jagannath Gupta Institute of Medical Sciences & Hospital (JIMSH)-which was showcased in a guided walk-through featuring state-of-the-art hospital equipment-provided not only physical healing but also emotional revival, a living witness to the mission's values of compassion and healing, and gave children a chance for a worthy living. Krishna Kumar Gupta, Chairman - JIMSH stated that in addition to fixing spines, this program is empowering futures, restoring dignity, and giving families fresh hope when they previously thought that such care was beyond their price range. This is a movement towards egalitarian healthcare, where knowledge, technology, and compassion combine to change lives. It is more than just a medical purpose. They are extremely appreciative of the amazing group of international medical pioneers who have devoted their time and expertise to realising this vision. Every child deserves the opportunity to stand tall, walk with pride, and embrace a future full of limitless possibilities, and that is why they stand together.
