News Desk, News Nation 360 : Since its founding in August 2024, the Sankara Nethralaya Elite School of Optometry, Kolkata (SNESO), a division of the Elite School of Optometry, Chennai, has quickly become a premier centre for optometric education. By doing thorough scientific research, SNESO hopes to improve optometric education, increase community outreach, and further the field. In memory of Dr. S. S. Badrinath, the renowned founder of Sankara Nethralaya and a pivotal factor in the founding of the Elite School of Optometry, SNESO held its inaugural national scientific session with a strong commitment to improving optometry education in West Bengal and beyond. The first Dr. S. S. Badrinath Memorial Optometry Scientific Session took place on World Optometry Day, March 23, 2025, commemorating the profession and setting new academic benchmarks using a day packed with expert talks, panel discussions, and research presentations on contemporary optometry trends, with keynote addresses by Dr. Prema Chande on Low Vision Services, Dr. Pavan Kumar Verkicharla on myopia studies and technology, and Lakshmi Shinde on rare contact lens fits; one particular highlight was a panel discussion regarding the implications of the National and State
Councils of Allied Health Professions (NCAHP & SCAHP) on optometrists, in addition to 35 free paper presentations highlighting research and case reports from optometry institutions from all over India and a lively poster presentation session; the event saw a rapturous roll-out of 159 delegates from 14 colleges and 12 institutions from five states, namely Gujarat, Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, and Tamil Nadu, as an unparalleled platform for professional development, networking, and the promotion of optometry education and practice in India, with its runaway success heralding the start of an annual tradition to be conducted every February or March to continue with scientific excellence and collaborative advancement in eye care.
