The Indian Taekwondo Contingent Competed in the 2024 World Taekwondo Virtual Championship in Singapore

News Desk, News Nation 360 : On November 16–17, 2024, the Indian Taekwondo Contingent competed in the 2024 World Taekwondo Virtual Championship in Singapore. The 2024 World Championship had 23 participating nations. The first World Taekwondo Virtual Championships, held in Singapore from November 16–17, included over 120 competitors and served as a demonstration of the sport's inventiveness, inclusivity, and diversity. By providing competitors with fresh challenges, thrills, and chances, providing viewers with entertainment, and bringing Taekwondo into line with the developments of the digital age, the World Taekwondo Virtual Championships have ushered in a new era for the sport. Virtual Taekwondo creates an even playing field for athletes to compete in non-contact sparring by utilising a virtual reality headset and the innovative motion-tracking AXIS technology created by Refract Technologies. India's Taekwondo contingent consisting of Pradipta Kumar Roy, Tejas Yadav, Ruma Roy Chowdhury, Vyom Sonavane, Dhanashree Pawar, and Akansha Borkar participated in the World Taekwondo Championships held recently in Singapore. Tejas Yadav won a Bronze Medal. Both Pradipta Kumar

Roy and Dhanashree Pawar went up to the quarterfinals. Pradipta Kumar Roy was appreciated by the Chairman of Taekwondo Promotion Foundation. Notably, it was only Pradipta Kumar Roy and Ruma Roy Chowdhury who represented West Bengal. The International Olympic Committee has established the Olympic E-sports Games as a biennial competition held independently of the Summer and Winter Olympics. The Taekwondo Association of West Bengal, which is an auxiliary body in line with India Taekwondo, World Taekwondo, and Asian Taekwondo Union, is the governing body for Taekwondo across West Bengal. Indian Taekwondo athletes are entitled to appear in official World Taekwondo events like the Olympics, E-sports Olympics, Paralympics, World Championships, Grand Prix, and Asian Games. The objective would be to provide Indian Taekwondo athletes, primarily from West Bengal, with the opportunity to be a part of this rapidly growing sport. At the Opening Ceremony on November 16, 2024, at OCBC Arena, Singapore Sports Hub, prominent dignitaries such as Dr. Chung-won Choue, President of World Taekwondo; Prof. Jung Heon Kim, Chairman of the Taekwondo Promotion Foundation (TPF) under the Ministry of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, South Korea; Ser Miang NG, a former member of parliament; Ser Miang NG, a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC); Edwin Tong, Minister for Culture, Community & Youth, Government of Singapore; and other notable dignitaries shared their insightful remarks.
