News Desk, News Nation 360 : The 16th Apeejay Kolkata Literary Festival (AKLF) began with the announcement of the six selected titles by Dr. Alka Pande, Shobhaa De, Dr. Kunal Basu, Samar Jodha, and Anja Riedeberger. A list of six book covers chosen by the esteemed jury, which included Priti Paul, director of Apeejay Surrendra Group and the brains behind the Oxford Bookshop chain; Shobhaa De, author, columnist, and novelist; Kunal Basu, author and scholar; Dr Alka Pande, museum curator and jury chair; and Max Mueller Bhavan, director of information services for South Asia Goethe-Institut. The main event featured announcements of Anja Riedeberger and Samar Jodha, a TED speaker, mentor, and installation artist. The shortlist for the 10th Oxford Bookstore Book Cover Prize features a diverse range of titles and designers. "Conversations with Aurangzeb" by Charu Nivedita, designed by Devangana Dash, explores historical dialogue and is published by Perennial. "Epicurious" by Sreelata & Menon, designed by Sharanya Kunnath, caters to young readers with a focus on culinary delights, published by Hachette India Children's Books. "Feathers, Fools and Farts: Manipuri Folktales Retold" by L. Somi Roy and Thangjam Hindustani Devi,
designed by Samar Bansal, brings to life vibrant folktales, published by Puffin. "Quarterlife" by Devika Rage, designed by Edmund Spitz, delves into the complexities of young adulthood, published by Fourth Estate. "For Now, It Is Night" by Hari Krishna Kaul, designed by Amit Malhotra, offers a poignant narrative, published by Perennial. Finally, "How to Love in Sanskrit" by Anusha Rao & Suhas Mahesh, designed by Rashmi Gupta, explores the nuances of love through the ancient language, published by HarperCollins Publishers India. This shortlist showcases the creativity and skill of designers and their ability to visually capture the essence of each book.
