News Desk, News Nation 360 : On 20th January 2025, the 6th Meghalaya Games will begin with a torch relay ceremony, signifying the excitement and preparation for the games. Commencing on January 17, 2025, from PA Sangma Stadium in Tura, the ceremony is now in its last few laps in Jowai and will end with the official countdown to the games. The Hon'ble Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K. Sangma, will preside over the opening of the Meghalaya Games. Other distinguished dignitaries will also be present, including the Hon'ble Sports Minister of Meghalaya, Shakliar Warjri. The torch-bearing ceremony of the Meghalaya Games serves as a powerful symbol of unity and cultural harmony, transcending cultural, linguistic, and tribal divides. As the torch journeys through the state, it fosters community engagement, cultural exchange, and the preservation of traditional arts. This year, the games, with a record number of 3500 athletes vying for 1600 medals across 23 venues, will also have seven para-athletes participate in the para-shooting event. This is indeed a giant step towards inclusivity. The Meghalaya Games epitomize the state's commitment to sporting excellence and its ability to unite diverse communities with the shared spirit of competition. It was going around the state, filling it with a unifying feeling and communal pride among the citizens. This journey began from Tura as a golfer, Jason Passah, along with athlete Himonki Khaii took up the torch for Shillong
and, the same has been on view at the MUDA complex and could be had for public interaction. It will then go on to traverse through the central locations of Iungwalieh, Loomkyrwiang, and Jowai before reaching Thadlaskein and then culminating at the venue of the Games in the Wahiajer Football Stadium on January 21, 2025. The final torchbearer will symbolically hand over the flame to the host city at the main stage, thereby concluding this significant leg of the Games' celebrations.
